Generation is metered by your plan. Local analysis stays free, but the number of spikes and kits you can generate, and whether you can generate from the CLI or MCP at all, depends on which plan you are on. This page covers the plans, how you are charged, and how to manage your subscription.
Plans
Quotas are per month and reset monthly.

Starter and Pro unlock generation from the CLI and MCP. Free is a good way to try generating a spike from the browser before you subscribe.
Currency
The currency you see is the currency you are charged. There is no conversion step at checkout.

CLI and MCP need an active plan
Generating from the CLI or MCP requires an active Starter or Pro
plan. On a free account, spikeme gen returns a "plan required" message,
because free generation happens on the web only (1 per month).
Local analysis is different: running spikeme to parse your manifest,
categorize dependencies, and spot gaps is always free and needs no plan.

Managing your subscription
Billing runs through Stripe. You subscribe from the pricing page or from inside the app, and you can change plans there too.
- Upgrade takes effect in-app right away, so a bigger quota is available as soon as you move up.
- Downgrade offers a retention discount before it applies, so you can stay on your current plan at a lower price if that works better for you.
- Payment retries (Stripe dunning, the
past_duestate) keep your paid access while the charge is retried, so a temporary card problem does not lock you out mid-cycle.
Quota reset and fair use
Monthly quotas reset every month: on Free and Starter you get a fresh allowance at the start of each cycle.
Pro is unlimited for normal use. Its only limit is a daily fair-use anti-abuse cap, which exists to stop automated abuse, not to ration your month. It is a daily ceiling, not a monthly quota, so day-to-day work stays uncapped in practice.
